Interview Preparation (Non RCMP)
You often hear individuals lament that they are not good in interviews. Interviewing well is a skill, and, like all skills, it is a faculty that can be learned. Whether it be for a job or a promotion, the ability to communicate effectively to an interviewer one’s skills, experience and personality is key to having a successful interview. The quality of your communications to an interviewer is determined by the quality of your preparation. Just like an actor preparing to go on stage to deliver a performance, the interviewee, to make the right impression, needs know his/her “lines”, know how to build rapport with their “audience” and how to project the image of the type of employee the interviewer is looking for. A well thought out plan is necessary to create the proper preparation strategy that includes:
- Preparing and delivering a powerful introduction;
- Preparing strong responses to ensure that are at the right level and that they meet the required anchors;
- Creating the right mindset/state prior to and during the interview;
- Having an “intelligence-led” interview;
- Building rapport with the interviewer/board members;
- Harnessing and using the anxiety to one’s advantage;
- Seeing success through visualization;
- Techniques to optimize the recall of the prepared responses for the interview;
- One on one rehearsals for the interview;
